Cornett has supervised The Nature Conservancy’s* conservation science program in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota since 2004. She is an adjunct member of the graduate faculty in the Conservation Biology Program and Forest Resources Department at the University of Minnesota – Saint Paul.  She received a Ph.D. (2000) and M.S. (1996) in Forestry from the University of Minnesota - St. Paul and holds a B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College.  She collaborates with other scientists around the world and has co-authored over a dozen peer-reviewed articles on forest ecology, land management, and conservation.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Cornett fell in love with the woods and waters of northern Minnesota while doing field research in the state parks along Lake Superior’s scenic shoreline. Over the last two decades she has volunteered on the boards of the Minnesota Native Plant Society, Plowshare Community Farm, Minnesota Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology, and on the Mayor’s Transition Team for Sustainability in her adopted hometown of Duluth, Minnesota.

Another of Cornett’s passions is local food. Since 2001 Cornett has been a loyal member of Duluth’s first Community Supported Farm, the Food Farm. For four years her front porch has served as the delivery site for Clover Valley Farms’ free range poultry. In 2004 she co-founded a local group of culinary enthusiasts; North Shore Epicureans continues to gather six times each year to eat, drink, and experiment in the kitchen. As far as Meredith Cornett is concerned, a perfect day involves cooking a meal to enjoy outdoors in the company of her husband, daughter, and friends.
